Three Arch Bay is an incredible beach community in South Laguna Beach. Three Arch Bay homes for sale are some of the most coveted in Southern California. The neighborhood is famous for and named after the three arches in the cove on the north end of the bay. The bay is surrounded by cliffs providing a tranquil beach area only accessible to residents.
I had the privilege of lifeguarding at Three Arch for eight years and it was my favorite beach of all. Every time I walked down the steps toward the private beach and looked out from the gazebo, I felt like I had been transported to a tropical destination that was unaffected by the outside world. As a lifeguard, I fought for the Three Arch shift because it was an escape from the crowds and the chaos of the other local beaches that have public access. The beach hosts turquoise-colored water, great waves for body surfing, and occasionally provides good barrels for talented surfers. On calmer days it is a popular spot for diving and spearfishing.
The community of Three Arch Bay is divided into two parts, both protected by guarded gates: Upper Three Arch Bay on the east side of Coast Highway, and Lower Three Arch Bay on the beachside of Coast Highway. Upper Three Arch homes sit higher in elevation and provide stunning panoramic views of the coast. Lower Three Arch Homes are closer to the beach and some sit on top of the cliffs overlooking the water.
Three Arch Bay homes for sale can range anywhere between $2 million to $35 million depending on the home’s size, age, view, upgrades, etc. There are about 500 homes in Three Arch Bay. The style of the homes in Three Arch Bay varies between cozy beach cottages from the 1950s to the latest in modern architecture and design.
The community is located on the border of Dana Point and Laguna Beach, neighboring Monarch Bay–another great private beach community. Three Arch is situated in a great spot because it isn’t plagued with the crazy summertime traffic that begins a bit further north. It is still close to the great restaurants, art galleries, coves, and the Festival of the Arts for which the city of Laguna is renowned. Three Arch is close to Crown Valley Parkway, which easily connects to Toll Road and to the 5 Freeway. Driving south on PCH leads to the heart of Dana Point, which is experiencing a complete revival in developments and restaurants throughout the city and down by the harbor.
The Fourth of July is an exciting time for Three Arch Bay. The community hosts its own fireworks show that fires off from a barge in the bay. The beach becomes alive with neighbors and friends and provides a setting for a great social event for families of all ages.
I will let you in on a little secret: Upper Three Arch Bay homes are nestled under the best walking trail in Laguna Beach. This trail is one of the best-kept secrets in the area because it boasts uninterrupted panoramic views that span from San Diego all the way up to Long Beach. The trail has become a weekly ritual for me and some weeks I walk it three to four times just to watch the sunset. It helps me to recenter myself, to reflect, to pray, and to remember to always be grateful for the world that we have been given. The area is called Badlands Park and there are only two ways to get there: either walk up from Three Arch Bay, or drive all the way to the top of Pacific Island Drive, turn left on Ocean Way, and left again on Isle Vista Street. I will write a separate post dedicated to the trail and my love affair with it, but for now, here is my secret and I encourage you to go explore the trail, watch the sunset, and send me photos while you’re at it.
